Irfan has won the best playback singer award for the phenomenal singing he's done in "Rehmat Zara" from the film "Lamhaa". The awards, organized by Tellychakkar, were based on public votes taken on the shortlisted nominations.
This award is the first of many testimonials, we hope, to Irfan's unmatched talent, his ability to give any feeling his voice and converting it into a spirituale experience for music lovers world over - I certainly could not have imagined any other singer give "Rahmat Zara" the degree of depth that Irfan's voice lent it.

Irfan, Emran Hasmi, Mahesh Bhatt: The Magic of Music

Emran Hashmi's films are known for their music, particularly so when it is a Mahesh Bhatt production. And so it was exciting to know that Irfan was singing for "Murder 2."

The film has released, as has the music. Irfan's song, "Phir Mohabbat" has won the hearts of audience - and how! Gyms, restaurants, hotel lobbies, cars at signals, iPods of youngsters who listen to music nice and loud - from everywhere, the voice of Irfan flows straight into our heart.

Here is what Indiafm.com says about "Phir Mohabbat" in their music review of Murder - 2:

"Mithoon spins a melodious tune for 'Phir Mohabbat'. A love song which is quite heart felt and has a soulful appeal to it, 'Phir Mohabbat' is an almost unplugged number where Mohd. Irfan holds fort. What also impresses in a big way are lyrics by Sayeed Quadri that pretty much convey the turmoil that the protagonist is going through while contemplating whether to allow himself to fall in love or not. This is the highlight number of the album"

So go ahead, buy the music CD of the film, go watch the movie. Let the voice of Irfan become part of your fond memories.

Wishing Irfan more success in the film industry, something that an amazingly talented singer like him totally deserves.

...and he sings in Lamhaa too!

The stars are casting their gentle glow on Irfan's career. After singing the haunting "Behne De" in Raavan, he now features in the credits of "Lamhaa", the much-awaited Sanjay Dutt and Kunal Kapoor movie that's slated to release this year.

Irfan sings two songs in this film: "Salaam Zindagi" that is a sort of anthem and the theme song of the film. It's a soulful number that begins with the laughter of children and speaks of the need for peace and the protection of innocent lives in Kashmir.

He then goes on to sing a power-packed "Rehmat Zara" along with music director Mithoon himself. It's a Sufi style energetic lyric and is one of the best songs of the album.
Here's hoping our Irfan gets a Filmfare nomination on this song. Inshallah.

Irfan: New Pictures!

After a long hiatus, we are back. And so is Irfan. After a string of shows that took him to the shores of Africa and Kuwait, he got to perform again in his homeland. India. His very own Hyderabad.
I pictured his voice filling all those far-off lands. And I think the air there still carries his voice, a note here, a note there, lingering in the air, someone in pain, suddenly comforted, for unknown to them they have been touched by Irfan's voice.
His show at the Niazm club of Hyderabad, was without doubt, successful. Here are a few concert pictures that can be downloaded from Picassa.
